Can A PPC Campaign Improve SEO Rankings?
Can A PPC Campaign Improve SEO Rankings?…. This is a popular debate amongst many organisations and Search Engine Optimisation professionals alike.
Organisations who have an active PPC campaign have noticed in some cases the natural SEO rankings for their websites have increased. Many believe that to succeed in Search Engine Optimisation they should have an active PPC campaign running, even if the PPC campaign is only spending a small amount. Consequently some are adamant that PPC will ultimately increase natural SEO rankings.
Through my experience and knowledge of heading both search engine optimisation and Pay Per Click campaigns I strongly believe that SEO and PPC are not directly linked.
For PPC campaign to be successful it requires several elements that are found within natural SEO, these include the content on the landing pages needs to be keyword density optimised and highly relevant to the PPC ad and keywords being bid on. This is also true for SEO, in search engine optimisation keyword density and fresh relevant content is king; therefore both SEO and PPC include similar requirements. As a PPC campaign matures, the cost per click will eventually reduce at the same time boosting sponsored link rankings.
An increased amount of traffic to your website could be due to new content and activity on your website such as links to a blog on your site from other websites. If new activity occurs on your website, search engine spiders will pick up on this, and naturally present your site highly within the search engine rankings. This would occur whether your website has an active PPC campaign or not.
If the claim that PPC campaigns affect the natural SEO rankings of a website is proved to be correct, than search engines such as Google may be up for some criticism as Google claim to deliver unbiased and relevant results everytime. Various people claim to attempt to prove the theory of PPC affecting SEO correct, although to date this theory has been proved neither correct or utter nonsense.
I do believe their to be an indirect link between SEO and PPC, a good pay per click campaign will increase traffic and awareness to a website creating inbound links, this in turn will increase the organic rankings.
