Top 5 SEO Tips
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a common process used to optimise a website so that it should gain an increase within your rankings in the search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and MSN!.Here are some tips that I have come across through general trial and error and most importantly hard work.
Tip 1- Link to yourself and do it effectively: This type of linking structure allows you to page rank from your main pages and build up your lower pages. This also allows new users that have never visited your site to gain knowledge of your older content. Therefore linking to yourself allows search engines such as Google to assign page rank to that particular page and give you an overall higher page rank.
TIP 2- Quality content: Quality content is very important and is a vital area when optimising a website. Quality content is their for your users and needs to be effective as this is generally what the users will want to read. This content also needs to be unique and your own style, as if your content contains any duplicate content this can have a huge effect on your positioning within the search engines. Producing quality content needs to be done to a high standard, which can involve a large amount of time and effort but if done effectively it is worth all the time and money in the world.
Tip 3- Your URLs's need to be search engine friendly: URLS's can help you gain more hits from the keywords that you have placed within them. These can be picked up by search engines and are another aspect that helps gain higher rankings within the search engines. Originally search engines did not index URL's but times have changed and search engine friendly URL's are the next best thing. Not only is it important for search engines but also for the users that will be viewing your site, as if your site is not friendly within the search engines more than likely users wont be able to access your site or wont even be offered the option of your site within the search engine result pages (SERP).
Tip 4- Choose relevant keywords or phrases: When choosing relevant keywords and phrases a lot of time and research needs to take place. This is due to the fact that if you do not choose relevant keywords you could lose a large amount of traffic being driven to your website. When researching chosen keywords, always keep in mind what would you or a user would type in to a search engine search box when looking for your services or products etc.
Tip 5- Use meta tags: Although meta tags are not what gains higher positioning within a search engine, it is vital that you don't leave your meta tags empty. Search engines are always changing their techniques when it comes to crawling and indexing websites. Therefore it wont do any harm in already using meta tags such as keywords, description and title, as this will put you one step ahead of the search engines future plans.
In conclusion, we feel if you follow these tips that you should gain higher positioning within the search engines and get the full potential out of your website.
